Vic Mensa and Chance The Rapper have joined forces to host the first-ever Black Star Line Festival in Accra, Ghana on January 6, 2023.
The rappers made the public announcement at the Free The Youth flagship store. According to Vic Mensa, the concert’s main aim is to build a bridge between black people on the continent, those in the diaspora, and the people of the globe as well as some of the biggest acts in the world.
The duo brought eight students from Chicago on a tour here in Ghana to teach them about their African roots. The Black Star Line Festival will add to the number of activities under the Year of Return initiative as it is expected to be an annual event. The festival is inspired by Jamaican activist Marcus Garvey’s shipping industry the Black Star Line which was established in 1919 to link America, the Caribbean, and Africa to global shipping and tourism opportunities.
Chance The Rapper shared the news on his official social media page with the caption:
The line-up for the festival is yet to be released but the duo disclosed that the event is expected to draw some 38,000 music lovers to the Black Star Square in Accra.
