Nigerian singer-songwriter De Gold channels faith, resilience, and the spirit of the everyday hustler into ‘Devotion’, an Afrobeats-rooted, Afrogospel-flavoured single released on September 18, 2026.
Born Ini-obong Cletus Echoi and raised in Akwa Ibom State, De Gold’s relationship with music began in church.
He started as a chorister before becoming a conductor, an experience that deepened his love for melodies, harmonies, and the art of putting words together.
Those early experiences continue to shape the way he approaches songwriting today.
Interestingly, ‘Devotion’ was never planned.
During a studio session with producer sosickpro, De Gold began humming over a beat that caught his attention.
When the producer moved past it, he asked him to return to the sound.
What followed was an honest freestyle inspired by a difficult period after a trip that left him having to part with some personal belongings.
That spontaneous moment eventually became a song with a much bigger purpose.
‘Devotion’ is built for early mornings and anyone chasing something bigger, offering a simple reminder to keep going and praise God regardless of what the day brings.
There is also something deeply personal in the production.
The steady konkon rhythm echoes the masquerade tradition of De Gold’s village, where similar sounds accompany festive occasions.
More than a motivational record, ‘Devotion’ feels like a piece of encouragement from someone who has lived through the uncertainty he sings about and found a reason to keep moving.
