Sho Madjozi speaks on the African Unity Narrative and her range

Sho Madjozi

Despite rapping in Tsonga on many of her hit songs, Sho Madjozi‘s music has become a melting pot of sorts.

This is mainly due to her ability to produce lyrics over a diverse array of other native African languages.

Sho Madjozi’s meteoric rise can largely be attributed to her contribution to the changing landscape of popular African music, whilst appealing to the ears of an international audience despite the obvious language barrier.

The rapper recently partnered with Hennessy and in a “Hennessy Very Special” interview she gave her two cents on the popular African Unity narrative among other things, saying, “I don’t have to come and preach to you and say to you.. Look, as Africans, we are one. In a subtle way, my music is already doing that.

She further spoke on the barriers that have been broken in the past few years on the global stage. “I think for so long we’ve believed that we couldn’t, you know – the best you could be was an African superstar. There’s no more this thing of I’m just limited now to an African context… No one’s better than you. This is our world as well.
