Richie Gathu Drops a Groovy Summer Jam ‘Cosa Nostra’

Richie Gathu

Kenyan-born Bristol artiste Richie Gathu unleashes an infectious new tune for the summer titled “Cosa Nostra”.

Like many artistes of dual nationality, Richie Gathu is inspired by sounds from both countires. ‘Cosa Nostra’, a self-written and self-produced vibrant and energetic song happens to be his third release of 2021, a follow-up on ‘Championships’ and ‘Euphoria.

Mastered by renowned sound engineer Adam Haggar, Cosa Nostra was inspired by Richie’s inability to be with his lover during the lockdown. “The inspiration for the song stems from lockdown, the endless months of being separated from a lover and planning to “pull up” as soon as I could.” Richie Gathu blends british influences with his African roots giving the song a unique sound and opening it up to larger audience. “I even had to sprinkle some Swahili in there to add extra flavour to the tune!

As soon as I press play on Cosa Nostra, I’m teleported to Havana, Cuba or to the Amalfi Coast. In my mind, I see a beautiful sunset on the horizon, my body fuelled by 15 (or more) tequila shots as I hit the salsa across a pebbled street toward my lover who is in the exact same vibe as I am.

The Benji Cooper mixed and mastered ‘Cosa Nostra’ is a very relatable tune that quickly becomes an earworm. It is a portryal of how incredibly talented Richie is. Over subtle guitar strokes and piano progressions, Richie expresses how much he wants to get back with his lover after such a long time apart. With his eyes set on greatness, Richie Gathu is slowly cementing his spot as a worthy contender in the arena of UK Rap.

I don’t think there’s anyone I’ve played the song to that hasn’t sung the chorus by the end of the second verse. That’s what makes this song very special to me, It’s like a damn drug, and has a lotta quotables! When I first created the song, I didn’t realise just how magnetic it would be. I still can’t stay still any time I listen to it.

Richie Gathu’s ‘Cosa Nostra’ is definitely a breath of fresh air. His husky vocal tones and very easy to follow storyline gives listeners something they can relate to and a taste of what to expect in his future releases.
