Travis Scott’s Utopia Samples a Zambian Classic

Travis Scott

Travis Scott just dropped his era-defining album a few days ago, to global acclaim. The album had several hit tunes, with many calling it a modern-day classic worth all the hype and wait.

With the music world is buzzing in excitement, it will intrigue you to discover Utopia’s diverse African influences. From shooting videos and promotional content for the album in Nigeria to collaborating with Ghanaian producer Nabeyin on the song “Telekinesis”, Travis seems to be embracing a diverse artistic inspiration.

A new African connection has recently surfaced. One of Utopia’s standout tracks, “Sirens,” holds a secret gem. In a brilliant move, Travis Scott samples the iconic Zambian classic “Nsunka Lwedo” by Amanaz, a legendary Zamrock band founded back in 1973. This song hails from their renowned album “Africa,” released in 1975.

The production dream team behind “Sirens” includes a lineup of top-notch producers: Travis Scott, Buddy Ross, E.Vax, John Mayer, Noah Goldstein, WondaGurl, and KrishnaMusic. Together, they’ve reimagined the classic, breathing new life into its soulful essence.

The response to the song has been incredible, and rightfully so. Travis Scott’s creative rework of “Nsunka Lwedo” has given it a fresh spin, resonating with both longtime fans and new listeners. It’s a beautiful fusion of eras and cultures, showcasing the power of music to bridge gaps and create something truly unique.
