Nigerian artiste, producer, and record label executive, Larry Gaaga has been appointed Vice President, A&R, at Def Jam Africa.
Def Jam Africa is a division of Universal Music Group (UMG).
The deal was announced yesterday, the 13th of June. This new role will have Larry Gaaga lead the A&R division across English-speaking markets. He will report to Sipho Dlamini, the Chief Executive Officer of Universal Music South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa.
In a statement made by Def Jam Africa, Larry Gaaga and his team will be responsible for identifying and signing African continental talent that “speaks to and resonates with the defining culture and artistry of the Def Jam legacy.”
Def Jam Africa was launched in May 2020 and it currently has artistes like Stonebwoy, Boity, Cassper Nyovest, Nadia Nakai, Tshego, Tellaman, and Ricky Tyler under its umbrella. Larry Gaaga himself was signed to the label back in 2020. THis is what he had to say about his new appointment:
