UK Rapper of Ghanaian heritage, Guvna B is out with new song ‘Cushty’
Following his recent release “Mazza” and the iconic recent track “Battle”, Newham’s own double-MOBO winning rap icon Guvna B comes through with a new offering “Cushty” – the third teaser from his upcoming new album everywhere + nowhere.
Switching up the style, Guvna now comes through over a drill-influenced instrumental crafted by producer of the moment TSB (fresh from his work on J Hus’s Big Conspiracy album) – balancing the minimal foundations with his signature conscious lyricism to shift perceptions and show the possibility of positive messages within the sub-genre, despite the specific media view and scrutiny.
This song’s about youth violence in inner-city communities. It’s about not writing young people off and trusting that they have the ability to turn their lives around if they’re given better opportunities and better environments to thrive in. It’s a song about peace because the world’s tough enough as it is without young people losing their lives prematurely.

Guvna is right to feel powerful right now – the UK scene legend has a serious constellation of stars in his orbit, including Wretch 32, Ezra Collective and Barney Artist all featuring on his upcoming album. His own podcast series ‘The Loss Tapes’ sees him discuss real-life issues of loss and its effect on mental health – most recently with the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby. Continuing to explore notions of growth, success and loss to an ever-expanding audience, the imminent release of Guvna B’s album will underline 2020 as a milestone year for one the most unique and necessary artists in the UK right now.
