Wizkid, Burna Boy, and CKay are the most frequently cited names when the question “Who is the most streamed African artiste?” is posed. Surprisingly, all of the aforementioned responses are inaccurate. The most streamed African artiste is Moroccan-born US rapper French Montana.
French, who was born and raised in Morocco, is reported to have reached the milestone after his chart-topping song “Unforgettable,” featuring Swae Lee, amassed over three billion streams worldwide, also making him the first-ever African-born artiste to be awarded an RIAA Diamond Certification.
The Bronx native announced the news on Instagram on Monday, 20th February 2023, sharing an impressive list of all the diamond, platinum, and gold-certified records in his catalog.
French Montana has spent his entire career representing his African heritage. At the annual Pencils of Promise Gala in New York City last October, the rapper received the 2022 Innovator Award for his humanitarian efforts in Uganda.
