Akotowaa Features Meffstone on ‘IWITP’

Akotowaa

I stumbled upon Akotowaa’s twitter a couple of days ago after I clicked on to view a picture which had been circulating on Twitter for about a week- this was the artwork for her second official song titled “IWITP”.

The artwork for this record is one of the best I’ve seen in a long time. It has 3 entities involved- a photographer, a group of people in white posing for the photographer, and an unfashionable looking Akotowaa dressed in black, almost seeming invisible to the photographer. It has elements from the fable of the ugly duckling with Akotowaa playing the role of the main character.

IWITP, which stands for (I Wasn’t In The Pictures), is a reflective spoken-word piece brought into life by this poetic genius with the help of the mellifluous voice of Meffstone. “was I ostracized by design or did everyone think I was fine?” Akotowaa’s soft, forlorn words paint a picture of an individual who has been detached from a particular group for so long that she begins to wonder if this detachment was planned or the group thought she wanted to be by herself. IWITP also shows that Akotowaa regrettably hopes she could have been more confident and courageous to involve herself in activities that she admired and desired and not just be aloof. “I don’t even wanna be in the photos. I just wish I could have been bolder.”

TheGentleMan is responsible for production.

Enjoy the ride!
