South African folk guitarist Nibs Van Der Spuy has just released “Maiden of the River”, his first album in seven years.
This self-produced album, had Maerçk Haxo as the recording engineer, with mixing and mastering done by Brent Quinton. The album has guest appearances from Mark Kilian, Guy Battery, Julian Redpath, Shane Cooper, Clare Vandeleur and Quinton Song.
This 10-track piece of art which was written under lockdown restrictions somewhere on the Portuguese coast in Lisbon transmits a calming but deep message of rejuvenation amidst the chaos everywhere.
“One could feel the memories of years gone by mixed with elements of nature in the present, and the power of the Creator orchestrating the magic of song. It was also a time when I was missing my mother thousands of miles away in Africa but had the comfort and ever-presence of our Blessed Mother.“
Van der Spuy is currently performing across South Africa to promote the release of the album.
