Kissangwa Delivers a Soul-Stirring Call for Liberation in New Single ‘Botika Biso’

Kissangwa

Afro Folk virtuoso Kissangwa has unveiled ‘Botika Biso,’ a moving and thought-provoking single that serves as a powerful plea for the freedom of his Kongolese homeland.

Known for his masterful artistry and poignant storytelling, Kissangwa uses his music to shed light on critical issues, blending soulful melodies with evocative visuals that spark deep reflection.

Born and raised in Kinshasa, Kongo, Kissangwa grew up surrounded by the rhythms and melodies of traditional Kongolese music.

His name, meaning ‘shakers’ in Lingala, is a testament to his roots in percussive artistry. As a gifted multi-instrumentalist, composer, and electrifying performer, Kissangwa seamlessly fuses the sounds of his heritage with modern influences like jazz, soul, funk, reggae, and rock.

His previous works include the alternative national anthem ‘Nkunga Kongo,’ which honors the cultural richness of Kongo, and the uplifting single ‘Keep That Joy,’ which captured hearts in 2023.

Beyond his solo projects, he has collaborated with Orphée Wemba, daughter of the legendary Papa Wemba, and serves as the core drummer for London’s Ese & the Vooduu People.

‘Botika Biso,’ the second single from Kissangwa’s upcoming album ‘Kongo Akustik’ (due in early 2025), highlights the ongoing exploitation and external interference plaguing his homeland.

Through heartfelt lyrics and powerful visuals, featuring the partially erased Flag of Zaire, the song underscores the fading identity and resilience of the Kongolese people. Kissangwa’s artistry shines through in this emotive ballad, recorded at Belmont Villa, where he continues to inspire global audiences with his profound message.
