Getting To Know

Los Angeles-Based Record Producer of Ethiopian Descent, Anweezy Taking African Music Global!

Anweezy

Born Anwar Ahmed, the Virginia native of Ethiopian heritage Anweezy is a record producer who currently heads the Los Angeles based music label, Aktiv Records playing both managerial and production roles.

The music entrepreneur identifies Michael Jackson as his biggest musical inspiration. Speaking about how his musical journey started, Anweezy professed: ”I first fell in love with music through dance, Michael Jackson was my biggest  inspiration!”

Graduating with a Computer Science and Mathematics degree, Anweezy after two years of working full-time as a software engineer, quit to pursue his passion for music.

“I went to school for Computer Science and Mathematics. I really did it to make my mom happy. Luckily that stepping stone put me where I’m at now. In 2017, I decided to quit my corporate job in Texas and move to Los Angeles cause I knew it wasn’t happy doing tech. I didn’t know a single soul moving to Los Angeles but I knew there were opportunities. I ended up trying different aspects of music and enjoyed the production process. So here I am blessed to create sounds daily with a diverse amount of creatives!”

Anweezy’s vision is to be the supreme connector of dots on the global music space, using his ever-growing influence in the music industry to connect African producers, singers, and musicians with international acts to propagate afrobeat and afro-pop globally.

This appears to be the mind-state behind his impending project. “I’m currently working on a Collaborative Producer’s Album Named “World’s Aktivated”. The album is going to have 12 records with international producers and artists from US, Ghana, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Nigeria, South Africa, UK, Belgium, Estonia, Netherlands, and Bulgaria. The collaborative project will be released in April. Till then, a few singles will be released. Just know some international fire is coming soon!”

It should be interesting to hear a plethora of diverse international sounds on a single body of work. For now, enjoy the record “Gratitude”, which is on all platforms!
