Rwanda recently hosted the Giants of Africa Youth Basketball Festival, a week-long event that blends basketball, education, culture, and entertainment. The festival engages young participants in basketball clinics and leadership workshops, empowering them to pursue their ambitions. It aims to educate and enrich African youth through basketball, inspiring them to become Africa’s future leaders.

The festival converged 250 youths from 16 countries in celebration of Giants of Africa’s 20th anniversary. The youth campers represented Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, Rwanda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, Somalia, Uganda, Botswana, Ghana, South Sudan, Morocco, Cameroon, and Mali.

An especially notable highlight of the festival was the presence of two giants from the Afrobeats genre, Davido, and Tiwa Savage. They graced the occasion with their unparalleled talents, headlining the closing concert held at the BK Centre in Kigali, Rwanda. The arena was pulsating with electrifying energy as each of these Afrobeats stars took center stage, serenading the crowd with a medley of hit singles from their extensive and impressive catalogs.

Of significant note was the esteemed presence of the President and First Lady of Rwanda among the attendees at the concert. Their participation added an extra layer of prestige to the event, and the occasion was made all the more special as Davido had the privilege of meeting the President, capturing the memorable moment in a series of pictures that have since been circulating across the internet.

The lineup of Davido and Tiwa Savage was a perfect fit for an event of such magnitude and caliber, providing a fitting crescendo to the festival’s spectacular celebration of basketball, culture, and African potential. Other performing acts included Tanzanian superstar Diamond Platnumz, South African songbird Tyla, and Rwandan sensation Bruce Melodie.
