South African songwriter/rapper, Gigi Lamayne, has thrown a word of caution to her compatriots about exploitation in the music industry.

She said this in a tweet yesterday, speaking on the need for vigilance on the part of artists regardless of genre.

This comes in the wake of complaints in the past couple of years from stakeholders in the South African music industry. Some of which include, Amanda Black (formerly with Ambitiouz Entertainment), Fiesta Black (and the Xigubu saga) and notably, Nota Baloyi’s issues with Slikour.

She tweeted:

Dear artists, be careful of people using “exposure” to take advantage of your art and hunger. That goes for any artist. No matter what you do.

In other news, as the brand ambassador for Chill Beverages Ltd – owners of Chateau Del Rei sparkling wine – Gigi posted some canned flavours on her twitter page. These bubbly wines in a can were outdoored in October last year as part of their new flavours campaign for the wine brand.
