UK-based South African songwriter and multi-talented artiste, Nakhane, will be headlining this year’s Bassline festival, “I AM LIVE” in Johannesburg this week.
I AM LIVE, is the third in a series of concerts dubbed, “From Lockdown to Live“, as live shows dived into a hiatus the past two years due to the pandemic. “I AM HOME” and “I AM HERE” were held in May 2020 and late 2021 respectively in sponsorship with the Music In Africa Foundation’s ACCES music conference.
Nakhane posted on Instagram saying:
Hey, Joburg, you sweety pie. I’m coming to play some songs for you on the 21st of May at @constitution_hill. Ticket link on bio. #ConcertsSA, #DMF2022
The event which will be hosted by the Department of Sport, Arts, and Culture, is a part of the Africa Month celebrations – commemorating the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) on May 21st.
The festival promoter, Paige Holmes of Bassline Live, said, “In celebration of Africa Month, we are excited to showcase these incredible, diverse artistes from our continent. What this event does is aid the live music industry as a whole, as it creates work for the full live music industry eco-system from production, marketing, performing service providers and artistes.”
“Nakhane is truly one of the most extraordinary talents we have ever worked with, and that says a lot, us having been involved in the live music industry for 28 years”, she added.
Supporting artistes include Bongeziwe Mabandla, Sun-El Musician, Ms Party and Aurus.
